Back Stage at UK Tech Days – Day Three

The day at UK Tech days had a great proceeding like the previous days. It was both useful and entertaining sessions. The experts and designers briefed the audience about ASP .NET 4, Silverlight 4, Visual Studio 2010 and more. On that day the software released and was announced officially and it will be in the market soon.

Silverlight 4 is said to hit the markets on 15th of April. Mike Tautly began the day with a good cognitive session. He discussed about Silverlight 4 and their main aspect which includes the functional improvements, the frameworks associated and tool support.

Michael Koester gave a nice presentation on that day. He gave a detailed talk on the Blend and design. . The attendees were interviewed to share their thoughts and likes of the day. The audience saw the best features of Blend which includes the illustrator and also Photoshop import. The presentation was for the technically strong audience but it did not disappoint the others because there were many demonstrations to let people know what the product was. Many of the attendees were really glad about the Silverlight 4. They were impressed by the presentation on the design and the use the product in their business. After interviewing the attendees Sara Allison felt that the day was a great success. The audience was active and felt like they came to the right place. Some attendees showed their fondness for Visual Studio 2010 and were very eager for the product to be released in the market. The product has a great potential from what they thought.

UK Tech Days (Day 2) – More about Visual Studio 2010

UK Tech Days are undoubtedly one of the great technical events in the country that serves as a one stop place for developers from different country to meet up under a single roof. The day 2 of this grand festival did not disappointment anyone either. The highlight of the day was the launch of Visual Studio 2010. To no surprise VS2010 has been one of the most awaited software and all the developers who were gathered were happy hearing about its features and functionalities. There was useful and thought provoking sessions on the new features in Visual Studio 2010. All these sessions were targeted towards the developer community across the globe as this piece of software or tool helps them to create greater applications with ease.
As the part of interviews of the day, Sara Allison got in touch with Rob Miles, one of the great lectures from the University of Hill. Rob Miles spoke elegantly about the features of VS2010 and said how one can use this software to code for fun. Most of the things that Rob shared during this talk made clear sense and it cleared showed that he liked the software. Sara also had a chance to meet up with Collin Beard and ask a few questions about Sailing.
Thus the overall day went really well with almost all attendees satisfied with the sessions. Most of them conveyed their willingness towards the new software while others were dumb stuck seeing the wide range of features it supports. The day gave a chance for all developers to meet together at a single place and share their thoughts with experts in the field. One of the attendees even said to Sara that this product is going to be a great success considering its abilities and ease of use.

Improved memory chip

Michael Kozicki, an  electrical engineering professor and the researchers have found that we can make stackable memory using “ionic memory technology,” which  makes them high-density memory storage cells. The new method also uses common electronics materials.
nanochipThe high-density data storage by ‘stacking’ memory layers on top one another inside a single chip is inexpensive. The hard drive data storage capacity can be on a chip, which makes portable systems compact, more rugged and able to go longer between battery charges.
This is a significant improvement on the technology will replace Flash, using materials common to the semiconductor industry (copper-doped silicon dioxide). Now common materia – silicon  is added to the memory.
Kozicki announced the new memory device in a technical presentation he gave in November at the 2009 International Electron Devices and Materials Symposia in Taiwan.
This current technology, stacking memory cells are fast reaching the physical limits of device memory. So new types of memory that can store more information into less and less physical space.
The concept of stackable memory is like storing boxes in a small room. You can store more boxes (each a memory cell), taking advantage of 3 dimensions of the room, if you stack them, rather than only putting each box on the floor.

Cell Phones Goes 3-D

A new technology developed on thin-film by 3M enables mobile devices like cell phones to view 3-D images without the special glasses. The technology named Vikuiti 3-D, guides slightly-different images to viewer’s right and left eyes. The device is to be held still relatively. The viewer will experience an “auto-stereoscopic effect” (sense of depth of the image).

The optical trick is the same as in Philips’s WOWvx 3-D TV. However, to make it work on mobile devices is a new challenge. In Vikuiti 3-D technology, reflective structures (prism-shaped) are embedded on back of polymer film. Tiny micro lenses are on front patterned.

This component guides lights through the liquid-crystal display in the front of film. Light passes the film from the 2 LEDs, one placed to right and one to left. Light from the LEDs bounces off waveguide & strikes the film at different angle, which causes the embedded optics in the film to bend the light in 2 different directions.

Both the LCD and the LEDs panels are switched very fast (120 times per second) to trick the brain of the viewer to see 2 images at one time.

Sony New PS3 Motion Controller To Release Next Spring

 PS3 Motion Controller

PS3 Motion Controller

As Sony announced the release of its new motion-sensitive controller for its PlayStation3 (video game console) by spring 2010 during the Tokyo Game Show, their rival Nintendo just hours earlier reduced the price of its Wii console to $200 from $250.

Announced earlier, Sony, at E3 last June that it was working on a new controller. Nintendo Wii’s new intuitive Wii-mote giving tough competition to Sony. Microsoft is also unveiling the latest controller system, Natal.

The new controller is of high-precision & high accurate motion sensors to give gamers full experience of thrill and enjoy playing. To use the Motion Controller you must have the PlayStation Eye camera. So it’s mix of bad news and good news.

A user’s face is recognized by the camera of PlayStation Eye. Body motion and voice are tracked and player’s image is displayed on the TV. Sony will push this enhancement to the market to generate more buzz. The new Motion Controller, with motion sensors, 3 axes accelerometer and 3 axes gyroscope tells the controller’s current movement and angle. The controller’s position is tracked to its absolute position by the PlayStation Eye, while the sphere located above the controller provides visual feedback by changing its illuminating the sphere or colors with different patterns. Rumble feature will be implemented and guess button mashing will be a  past.

LG watch Phone

LG_GD910_watch_phone_Orange

For the die hard James Bond fans, LG has just released the GD910 watch phone and which has hit the shelfs. Ofcourse, it doesn’t come with a Lazer cutter but it sure is packed with a lot of features for a watch.

The GD910 is a 3G enabled HSDPA quad-band watchphone with video calling capability through its VGA camera, where the video and  image can be viewed on the 1.4-inch capacitive touch screen. MP3 playback is good enough and it better using  the LG Watch Phone’s speaker. The small screen is very responsive to sliding across with your fingers, the T9 keypad is surprisingly easy to type on (though you can only see one line of text at a time) and the Bluetooth syncing is nigh on instant when you flick on the headset.

The voice command though was not as responsive as one would like . You’ll need to shell out around £500 for one of this.

Hit By Phishing Scheme

A phishing scheme has come to the surface where thousands of HotMail, Gmail, AOL and Yahoo user’s credentials  have been compromised, with their login info posted online, in the past few days.  Phishing is a major concern for many companies as the internet is rampant with many fake websites which lures users to disclose their online identities.

Microsoft Hotmail was hit hard the most with more than 10,000 of its user accounts falling prey to this scheme. Microsoft has confirmed that login credentials for several thousand Hotmail accounts have been posted on a public website and they have taken steps to protect these users and investigating into the matter. It has blocked all the accounts that were exposed and the affected users can fill out a form on the Windows Live e-mail support site to regain access to their accounts.

It was initially found that a list of around 10,000 Hotmail user credentials were posted on the pastebin.com site. A further list of about 20,000 e-mail accounts was also posted on Pastebin.com, containing login credentials for Gmail, Yahoo Mail, AOL, Comcast and Earthlink accounts, according to reports. This site allows exchange of codes for software programmers. Paul Dixon owner of the website said that the site will be offline for sometime to sort out this issue.

In the meantime Microsoft has asked all its users to exercise caution with their account information and to be careful with email that comes wth attachments from known and unkown sources
